Abstract
Denne studien har bakgrunn i barnehageloven, som slår fast at barnehagen skal bidra til trivsel og glede i lek og læring, og være et utfordrende og trygt sted for fellesskap og vennskap. Barn tilbringer store deler av hverdagen sin i barnehagen, og småbarn har andre forutsetninger og behov når de er utendørs kontra innendørs. Formålet med denne studien var å få et innblikk i hva barnehagelærere tenker om uteleken for de yngste barna under tre år, samt undersøke hvordan de tilrettelegger for å skape inkluderende prosesser i uteleken. Problemstillingen ble derfor: «Hvilke tanker har barnehagelærere av uteleken for de yngste barna i barnehagen, og hvordan tilrettelegger de for å bidra til inkluderende utelek?».
For å belyse problemstillingen presenterte jeg teori og tidligere forskning omkring småbarn og småbarns utvikling, lek, inkludering og ekskludering, samt voksenrollen i uteleken. Videre ble det ble tatt i bruk en kvalitativ forskningsmetode, og datamaterialet ble hentet inn via intervju ved bruk av en semistrukturert intervjuguide. Informantene bestod av fem barnehagelærere som jobbet på en småbarnsavdeling med barn under tre år.
Hovedfunnene mine er at uteleken for de yngste er preget av kropp, motorisk utvikling, samt glede og frihet. Alle var utendørs minst en gang til dagen, og det er frileken som dominerer uteleken i størst grad. Utestengning, ekskludering og utelukkelse oppstår i uteleken blant de yngste, og voksenrollen er av særlig betydning disse barna. Barnehagelærerne tilrettela for en inkluderende utelek på ulike måter, både bevisst og ubevisst. Hovedfunnene omkring tilretteleggende faktorer var organisering av de voksne, voksenrollen, bruken av avdelingsmøter og smågrupper, og ivaretakelse av barns behov for trygghet og tilknytning.
