dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the effect that the use of outdoor life can have on young people and young adults with mental disorders. I have put on what outdoor life is, its history, outdoor life in a public health perspective, outdoor therapy, mental disorders, coping and motivation. To find answers to my problem, I have used literature study as a method. Systematic searches were used in Oria and PubMed. I chose five articles that all shed light on the use of outdoor life, as this will help me answer my problem.
In the discussion chapter, my selected articles have been discussed against the theory. The findings are divided into four main findings: belonging, motivation, presence and recreation. This shows that outdoor life can have a positive effect on young people and young adults with mental illness. Furthermore, the thesis has shown that there is a need for further qualitative studies that say something about how the participants themselves experience this type of treatment.
