In Finnish music theory textbooks for the past 150 years the triadic IV–V–I progression has been presented as the standard form of the SDT chord progression. However, after reviewing around 1000 chord progressions in four different musical styles (W. A. Mozart, jazz standards, Robert Johnson, pop hits) it seems evident that this chord progression in its textbook form is virtually non-existent. This raises serious issues regarding the relation of music theory textbooks with style sensitive music pedagogy.en_US
