Totalt deltok 304 jordmødre i Norge.

In Norway, there are no national guidelines that include menopause in midwifery practice. The objective of the study was to identify whether midwives in Norway think that menopause should be part of midwifery competence, and further investigate whether their point of view was related to their individual background factors.
Method: A cross-sectional study with an anonymous electronic questionnaire. A total of 304 midwives in Norway participated.
Results: The results showed that most of the participants were in the age group 45-54 years, and majority had long work experience. 95 percent answered that menopause should be part of the midwifery scope of practice. 84 percent stated that the topic was not included in their midwifery education. The majority want more knowledge about menopause and support the idea of free counselling for menopausal women. The results also showed that midwives want interdisciplinary collaboration with other health professions, in menopausal care.
Conclusion: Overall, the midwives in the study believed that menopause should be part of the midwifery scope of practice. The midwives' views had no statistically significant association with their individual background factors.
