Abstract
This thesis analyses code-switching from Norwegian to English in the Norwegian online drama series `SKAM´. Three research questions ask 1. Why do the `SKAM´ characters switch from Norwegian to English? Are the code-switches fashionable or functional? 2. What types of code switches did the characters use the most? 3. Do the reason and types of code-switching differ from each season? This present study analyzed 43 episodes using a qualitative approach with transcriptions from the series, including a comparison of previous research, Bjørkedal (2018) and Muresan and Pop (2020). The results from the study analysis showed that there were multiple reasons for code-switching. It was most fashionable and functional reasons. Results also showed that the types of code-switches used the most were Intersentential and Intrasentential code-switching. The reasons and types for code-switching did not differ from each season. The number of Intersentential and Intrasentential code-switches is the main differerence between the seasons.
