Orphanage tourism remains a field lacking research. Several steps towards a more ethical practice have been made, including but not limited to, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, establishing the Committee and regional laws. What we know is that there are many implications in regard to orphanage tourism and the scope of the field is yet unknown. In view of this I wish to explore the need for a justice tourism-based approach in orphanage tourism. This is a literature review utilizing eight peer reviewed articles selected by use of a comprehensive methodological approach. The eight articles were selected following 3 different searches in two different databases; Google Scholar and Oria. These articles are qualitative with varying methods. In-depth interviews, literary reviews of various documents and observational studies have been used. The articles were then analyzed, to then collect data from them. This data was presented in the form of results which were used to discuss the articles based on the theoretical framework of the thesis. The results showed that orphanage tourism is a product of supply and demand, the impacts of this form of tourism on the orphaned children and the risks they encounter as well as a lack of law enforcement.
