Zonal isolation is essential to producing hydrocarbon from the subsurface. Zonal isolation ensures the well integrity and efficiency of oil and gas wells by preventing fluid migration and ensuring optimal production in the oil and gas industry. In addition, a well-done zonal isolation operation helps mitigate environmental risks and enhance the production operation's safety standards, as shown in Figure 1.1. Well barrier envelopes are developed and monitored to maintain well integrity. The type of well barrier elements selected to establish well barrier envelopes may differ during the life cycle of a well, that is, during drilling, completion, production and abandonment. One of these well barrier elements may refer to formation, casing, BOP, packers, and cement. Cement is the prime material used to seal annular space behind the casing when necessary and during the well abandonment as a permanent plug during the different stages of an oil well lifecycle.en_US
