dc.description.abstract
As the global population is estimated to be 9 billion by 2050, the demand for food is growing. There has been an increasing interest in offshore fish farming in the recent years in which fish farms are further away from the coast than what is common these days. Part of it is due to growing demand for seafood and limited opportunity for increasing production. Although aquaculture takes place in many regions in the world, there are a few countries that produce the major parts of salmon in the markets. Octopus is an innovative concept from Roxel Aqua, which consists of a modified jack up rig and several tension-anchored submersible cages with the jack-up as a base. This thesis reviews offshore aquaculture possibility in the major aquaculture producing countries using a PESTEL-analysis and an economic analysis.
