Kvinners erfaringer i møte med helsepersonell ved selvbestemt abort

Sammendrag

Bakgrunn

I 2021 ble det utført i underkant av 11 000 svangerskapsavbrudd i Norge, hvorav ca 95% var selvbestemte. I de fleste tilfeller er det sykepleier som er til stede for kvinnen gjennom prosessen, og har ansvar for ivaretakelsen. Behovet gjennom et abortforløp er komplekst og variert, og gjør det derfor interessant å undersøke videre hvilke opplevelser kvinnene har gjennom abortprosessen. Dette kan bidra til at vi som sykepleiere blir mer bevisst på hva kvinnene gjennomgår og hvordan imøtekomme dem gjennom hele forløpet.

Hensikt

Hensikten med oppgaven er å undersøke hvilke erfaringer de ulike kvinnene har i møte med helsepersonell gjennom et selvbestemt abortforløp.

Metode

Vi har benyttet en integrativ litteraturoversikt som metode for oppgaven, hvor vi har analysert fire vitenskapelige artikler. Resultatene fra de vitenskapelige artiklene, egne refleksjoner og relevant litteratur danner grunnlaget for besvarelsen.

Resultat

Resultatene viser at erfaringene kvinnene hadde i møte med helsepersonell gjennom abortforløpet påvirket deres opplevelse av ivaretakelse. Ambivalens og autonomi utpekes som utfordrende i kommunikasjonen mellom kvinnene og helsepersonell. Det trekkes frem ulike erfaringer med informasjon, støtte og smertebehandling, hvor det var en hovedvekt av negative opplevelser. Utfordringene kan møtes med kunnskap og kompetanseheving, og er nødvendig for å sikre kvalitet i ivaretakelsen av kvinner som gjennomgår selvbestemt abort.

Abstract

Background

In 2021, just under 11,000 abortions were performed in Norway, of which about 95% were self-determined. In most cases it is the nurse who is present for the woman throughout the process and is responsible for her care. A woman’s needs through the abortion process are complex and will differ and with that being the case it is interesting to investigate further what experiences women have through the abortion process. This can help us as nurses to become more aware of what women go through and how to accommodate them throughout the process.

Objective

The purpose of the thesis is to investigate what experiences the various women have in meeting with health professionals through a self-determined abortion process.

Method

We have used an integrative literature review as a method for the thesis, where four scientific articles have been analyzed. The results from the scientific articles, our own reflections and relevant literature form the basis for the answer.

Results

The results show that the women’s experiences with health personnel through the abortion process influenced their experience of care. Ambivalence and autonomy are identified as challenging in the communication between women and health professionals. Various experiences with information, support and pain treatment are highlighted, where the main emphasis was on negative experiences. The challenges can be met with knowledge, skills, and development, and are necessary to ensure quality in the care of women who undergo self-determined abortion.
