Outsourcing production has always been one of the main strategies to improve the production side of an organization by using suppliers’ capabilities. However, outsourcing objectives may fail due to inadequate risk consideration. In addition, Establishing and developing a supply chain in recent years is not only based on the simple logic of financial benefits and risk sharing. But also, the new concerns, such as sustainability and intellectual property (IP), have had a significant role in supply chain management. One of the critical stages for optimizing a supply chain is efficient supplier selection (SS) and performance evaluation. SS is considered a critical, demanding, and decision-making problem that has received particular attention with a significant impact on organizational performance and value. The main objective of SS is to mitigate supplier-related risks, optimize the supply chain and develop long-term relationships between buyers and suppliers. It is crucial to consider strategies for managing supplier-related risks through an optimal SS in today's contemporary, challenging, and risky environment. SS as a decision-making process is highly dependent on the considered SS criteria. The considered set of criteria guides and forms the SS process. Outsourcing production can be a great chance for young enterprises to take the most advantage of outsourcing potential opportunities. However, they can fail easily without considering a risk analysis since they are more vulnerable compared to big companies. In the context of SS, despite most of the previous research focused on the different methodologies in SS, fewer studies focused on identifying the most suitable set of criteria for one-time SS. Determining the efficient criteria that can assess all the aspects of suppliers on the one hand. And, avoiding the SS process to be complex on the other hand can be an issue in SS. Identifying and visualizing the interrelationships between the SS criteria enables decision-makers to narrow down the number of criteria and select the most efficient ones. One-time suppliers have different business relationships with buyers compared to multiple-time suppliers. Nevertheless, the relationship length of these suppliers can be longer than multiple-time suppliers. Past endeavors focused on SS criteria evaluation for multiple-time suppliers. A simplified risk analysis is conducted to identify the potential hazards, opportunities, and associated consequences with identified outsourcing hazards. The conducted risk analysis provides a general picture of hazards and safety measures, opportunities, and the reasons that can lead to missing out on the opportunities. To select the most efficient SS criteria, appropriate criteria are collected through reviewing the literature and obtaining the experts’ opinions. The DEMATEL method is applied in the next step to identify and illustrate the interrelationships and interdependencies between the collected criteria. The required data are obtained through a survey assessed individually by experts. The results show the interrelationships and interdependencies of criteria by a network diagram and cause-effect diagram. The results of outsourcing risk analysis show a neglect for gaining the most from opportunities by the studied enterprise. The outsourcing risk analysis gives insight into how different risks can affect the objectives and how opportunities can be missed. Also, the evaluation of SS criteria resulted in determining the most aligned criteria with the case study’s values while eliminating the unnecessary criteria. Results approve the different top criteria for one-time suppliers compared to multiple-time suppliers.
