Sammendrag
When drilling a conventional oil-gas well or geothermal well it is crucial to maintain well integrity. This is achieved by the preventing and containing fluid flow between the wellbore and the formation. Drilling fluid is the primary barrier between the formation and the well.
One purpose of the drilling fluid is to stabilize the pressure in the well and prevent fluid influx from the formation. As the drilling fluid circulates it deposits a thin an impermeable filter cake which seals and hinders the flow of drilling fluid to the formation. The aim of this study is to test the applicability of eight different modified cellulose fiber products. The majority of test were done using a standard HTHP filter press. 12 different fluid samples containing different fiber-based LCM materials were tested. Additionally, three fluid pills and a field mud with product were tested using a permeability plugging apparatus. The results show how different fiber based LCM can greatly reduce fluid loss to the formation and improve well integrity.
