This master`s thesis focuses on the prevention, management, and communication of energy blackouts in Norway. The objective is to identify effective approaches by analysing current practices and stakeholder perspectives. The research design used is a mixed methods approach, combining a survey and interviews. The study aims to investigate the causes and effects of energy blackouts and examine existing practices for prevention, management, and communication in the energy sector. The findings from the survey and interviews shed light on the causes of blackouts, the actions taken for prevention and management, and the importance of communication during blackout incidents. The findings of the study indicate that investing in infrastructure upgrades and maintenance is considered the most effective approach for preventing energy blackouts. Rapid restoration of power supply and employee preparedness are highlighted as key factors in managing blackouts. Multiple communication channels, including social media platforms, are deemed important for effective communication during blackouts. The survey results also revel common causes of blackouts, such as equipment failure, natural disasters, and extreme weather conditions. The study suggest the need for increased investment in infrastructure, improved power distribution systems, and enhanced communication plans to prevent and effectively manage energy blackouts. The conclusion drawn from the survey data and interviews, emphasise the importance of investing in infrastructure upgrades, maintaining power grid components, and educating employees on blackout preparedness. In summary, this thesis provides valuable insights into prevention, management, and communication strategies for energy blackouts in Norway. The findings contribute to the understanding of a complex and of the multifaceted nature of blackouts and offer recommendations for enhancing blackout prevention measures. Further research is recommended to expand on these finding and to gain a deeper understanding of the most effective activities for managing energy blackouts in Norway.
