dc.description.abstractThe thesis includes a review of the heavy metal mercury, with focus on its origin, effect on the environment, and its role in the petroleum industry. Mercury emissions from the petroleum industry in Norway is looked into and discussed. Certain mercury standards, as well as analyzing instruments used on the Norwegian Continental Shelf is described. The thesis also covers a brief description of mercury removal methods. At last, some of the main objectives are discussed, followed by a short conclusion including further research.
