Within the NNPC, its subsidiaries are charged with the main responsibility of providing services for the Corporation, they are also given the mandate to outsource services from specialized companies, most of who have been in the Oil and Gas Industry business long enough. From the upstream to the downstream businesses that the Corporation is involved in, some of these subsidiaries go into some sort of partnership in the form of joint venture agreements with some reputable international service companies operating in Nigeria. Notable to mention here is the Integrated Data Services Limited, commonly called IDSL. IDSL has been able to establish this sort of partnership through its joint venture with other specialist companies, and with this step they have been able to give the Corporation a competitive edge. The IDSL has a working relationship with two companies in the area of seismic data acquisition, on land and swamp. These are the joint venture with United Geophysical Company (Nigeria) Limited, and Petroleum Geo-Services ASA (PGS). With United Geophysical Company (Nigeria) Limited, they achieved the following; acquired Sercel SN 309 for their operation on AGIP JOB, CREW 166 and acquired 4D Seismic Data Acquisition Equipments Sercel SN408 for SPDC JOB, CREW 165. This subsidiary is working very hard when it comes to providing services for the corporation, with an ultimate goal of becoming the centre for the provision of geophysical and petroleum engineering services in the world of the Oil and Gas Industry. It is the intention of this thesis work to identify with the NNPC and describe how the group through its respective subsidiaries provides services for the citizens of the Nigeria and its foreign customers from overseas.no_NO
