This master thesis presents a Field-specific Technical and Economic Feasibility Analysis of a Subsea Shuttle Tanker. Several carbon capture and storage projects are being developed in Norway and worldwide. A Subsea Shuttle Tanker (SST) is, in this thesis, proposed as a transportation alternative to the existing methods, offshore pipelines, and tanker ships. Offshore pipelines are not profitable for smaller transportation volumes, and tanker ships are weather dependent. On the other hand, the SST can operate in any weather conditions as it operates underwater. Therefore, this thesis has examined if an SST solution will be technical and economically feasible for the Troll field. Troll field is located 65 km from the west coast of Norway and can store up to 1,5 million tonnes of CO2 annually. The thesis presents two SST solutions to serve the field, one with a cargo capacity of 4453 m3 (SST 1) and the other with 2203 m3 (SST 2). The technical feasibility analysis concluded that SST 1 and 2 are technically feasible. Furthermore, the economic feasibility compared the cost of the SSTs with crewed and autonomous tanker ships and offshore pipelines. The economic analysis concludes that both the SST solutions are competitive and even less costly than the tanker ships. Compared with offshore pipelines, the SST solutions are significantly less expensive. The result concludes that CO2 cost per tonne transported is lower by utilising SSTs for the Troll field.
