The oil and gas industry has been an important contributor to Norway’s economy ever since oil and gas production started on the Norwegian continental shelf. The oil and gas industry needs innovative solutions to stay competitive in the global energy market, and digitalizing maintenance is one such solution. One interesting option of digitalizing maintenance is moving from a document-based approach to a model-based approach. This can be achieved by using the principles of model-based systems engineering. This thesis is a case study that takes part in Aker BP’s pilot project to digitalize the maintenance and test concept for on/off valves through utilizing model-based systems engineering. Model-based systems engineering is based on four dimensions, namely requirement, behavior, structure, and parametrics. In this thesis, it is requirement and behavior analysis that is the focus of this thesis. This thesis documents the digitalized maintenance and test concept and provides a methodology that can be replicated for other equipment. Furthermore, this thesis argues that there are perceived advantages by moving towards a model-based maintenance and test concept. The most likely benefits are increased traceability and increased visibility of problem areas, but further development of the model could provide additional benefits.
