Sammendrag
This thesis documents the early development phase of a latch and release mechanism, where the goal was to make a 10mm separation within 10ms to break 4 electrical circuits. The thesis was proposed by Easee AS, a leading Norwegian company specializingin charging electric vehicles.
Several concepts were generated in a creative concept phase, resulting in one conceptbeing taken further through an iterative design process. Rapid prototyping and testingof the design iterations were carefully assessed with a high-speed camera. In addition, the resulting and final prototype, a functional prototype, was monitored and tested witha digital monitoring module yielding a resolution of 50 000 samples per second.
Calculations indicated a separation time of 7,1ms, while the experimental test resultsshowed a separation time of 7,4ms.
Several questions about Easee’s wish for the mechanism are still to be determined. How-ever, the thesis suggests several configurations and options for the sub-assemblies of themechanism to address the different outcomes.
The designed mechanism is in an early development stage, where extensive testing anddetailed design remain. However, the solution seems to be feasible, meeting Easee’srequirements.
