Museums are non-places for teaching pupils/students history. Digital information and communication technology have given museums challenges that were not foreseen only a couple of decades ago to the art of presenting history in new ways. Supported by government policies virtual museums, networks and education programmes have been created to provide the public with knowledge and understanding about the archaeological material in museum collections and exhibitions. The educational ideal is, however, to create authenticity as part of a pupil’s experience of the past. To interpret and present history in museums, the present must be used to understand the past. Life stories which pupils easily understand must be employed to briefly present the grand narratives of the past and suitable selections and collections of data must be used to impart knowledge.no_NO
