The TIPS III-project at Stavanger University Hospital aims to investigate the occurrence of drug-induced psychosis and the extent to which these conditions develop into more serious psychotic disorders. The working hypothesis is that patients with drug-induced psychosis develop schizophrenia spectrum diagnosis in approximately 25% of the cases. This article describes the drug abuse of some of these patients. It also reflects the drug treatment these patients have received for their substance abuse problems, and what kind of help they want when in contact with treatment services. The article is based on a study using EuropASI, a standardized, structured assessment instrument that consistently focuses on the patients' own assessments of problems and assistance needs. This contributes to reflection concerning the position of the patient and puts the users perspective in focus.
