dc.description.abstractThe first part of the thesis is an introduction of the drilling system where the theoretical background of the drilling system is described. Then the reliability centered maintenance (RCM) methodology is described. RCM is a logic way of identifying what equipment that needs to be maintained with a preventative maintenance basis rather than letting it fail and then fix it basis, commonly referred to as the run to failure (RTF). The maintenance strategies are described in 3.2 Reliability centered maintenance include many different hazard analysis types and techniques. The failure mode, effect and criticality analysis (FMECA) is the main technique in this thesis. The work of conducting a FMECA and failure tree analysis is very time consuming, this thesis will therefore have a main focus on a sub system. The subsystem described in detail is the top drive. A fault tree analysis is used to describe the system boundaries while the FMECA is used to create a risk priority ranking and a risk matrix. A maintenance plan for the top drive is proposed in Appendix B.nb_NO
