The Norwegian Oil & Gas Service Industry has been adapting itself to many different requirements arising from the increasing social responsibility of environment, constant technological innovations, strict government regulations, globalization and increasing competition. The service companies have been searching how to survive in this changing industry and increasing competitiveness.
Lean management aims to provide the companies with the model to establish the standard operations to compete, to supply the customers with exactly what and when they want by eliminating the waste thorough continuous improvement.
The goal of this thesis has been to use lean approach to analyze the workshop processes in one of the service companies in Oil & Gas Industry in Stavanger. A literature review of lean concept has been carried out in order to introduce the lean concept and the lean tools utilized in this thesis. Observations, interviews and literature review of current procedures of the company have been the data sources to analyze the processes. The deep analysis of the processes is illustrated by using the lean tools. The study also identifies the causes of the wastes, issues and challenges the company has been facing during its daily routines. Furthermore, the thesis encompasses the suggested solutions how to improve the efficiency, to use the scarce resources, to implement a successful implementation.
