The closeness in some family relationships always comes to a test when a family member or members is going through a difficult situation. Some of these situations are so dire and they end up requiring a lot of help from their next of kin. This next of kin, depending on the nature of this situation ends up being affected and requires support from external parties. This study’s aim is to explore the collaboration brought about by the relationships the professionals have with their leader, other professionals in similar fields, and the community as a whole in order to work with the next of kin in terms of the vulnerabilities they face during these times. The research was based at a centre in the South West of Norway and was conducted by qualitative inquiries, using interviews, purposive sampling. The data was analyzed and put into themes that suggested that the professionals had a holistic way of assuring participation of their service users and that there existed proper distribution of power amongst these professionals and the other professionals that they worked and or trained. This power distribution also allowed for community involvement. The study uses the terms ‘service users’, ‘people they work with’, ‘citizens’ interchangeably to refer to the next of kin
