dc.description.abstract | Geothermal energy may play a significant part in the energy transition. This thesis discusses the role of Norway in scaling up geothermal energy in the European market. The study is conducted within an analytical framework that integrates the multi-level perspective, strategic niche management, business model innovation and related diversification. We explore how to grow the niche energy and use the competencies and capabilities from the oil and gas industry. A qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews for data collection, where data was collected from different actors in the geothermal energy network. Our findings indicate that the opportunities for Norway lie in using energy more efficiently and using competencies and capabilities from the oil and gas to grow the geothermal market. The proposed business models include offering the geothermal energy applications as a service and innovating the certain components of the business model. Furthermore, current electricity prices, the need for energy independence and climate change can influence the geothermal energy market.
