Abstract The Interaction Ritual Chain (IRC) theory of Randall Collins is one of the main theories within the field of micro sociology. With all the innovation that happens within social media, it is interesting that Collins still is skeptical to the fighting power of online interaction rituals versus physical ones. In this thesis, I have studied interactions online in a Facebook group for fans of the group Kaizers orchestra. This not only gives me the opportunity to research the possibility of applying IRC theory to online interaction, but also makes it possible to analyze data from a group that has had no interaction for over ten years. Potentially bringing new information regarding the theory of Collins applied online. I have used Collins theory in company with other articles of IRC online and a few theories regarding sharing of memories. Firstly, to look for the elements of Collins`s theory in the interactions of the group. Secondly to analyze if and how the members were able to interact about Kaizers after such a long time period. I have done a nethnographic case study, analyzing archived interaction data in the group, collecting data from three different time periods to see the interaction evolve over time. Through the data and discussion, I found that speculation and remembering back at older memories with other members were a central part of not only establishing a mutual focus, common mood and a boundary to others. Checking off all the elements in Collins`s theory. But that also seemed to contribute to why members were able to discuss older symbolic objects after ten years of little interaction, as sharing of memories created a collective identity.
