dc.description.abstract
This bachelor's thesis aims to investigate how Russia employs the tools and methods of cyberwarfare in its conflict with former Soviet Union countries. The study examines three cases: Estonia, Georgia, and Ukraine. For each case, the political context and background of the conflicts are presented, the targets of the cyberattacks are identified along with the types of attacks, and lastly the origins of the attacks are investigated. A diverse range of sources, including reports, academic literature, and news articles, has been analyzed to get a broad understanding of the tactics and techniques carried out by Russia in these conflicts. Finally, the three cases have been compared and discussed. In conclusion, Russia used cyberwarfare tools and methods to destabilize critical infrastructure and spread political propaganda in its conflicts with former Soviet Union countries. However, this research is limited to the three countries investigated, and generalizing the findings should be done with caution.
