Kan vi endre kursen? Fra et sosiologisk perspektiv

Abstract

Denne studien undersøker hvordan sosiologi som fagdisiplin kan bidra i dagens omstillingsfase. Jeg har foretatt en litteraturstudie hvor jeg har inkludert relevante tekster for å først beskrive hvilket samfunn vi befinner oss i. Deretter settes det søkelys over nyere rapporter og forskning for å finne ut hvilke årsaker og alternativer vi har i dagens klimakrise. Jeg skal bruke fagdisiplinens etablerte teorier om risikosamfunnet, for å se hvordan dem kan brukes i nåtiden. Miljøsosiologien er fortsatt under utvikling, og har lenge utfordret skillet mellom det naturlige og sosiale. Det virker som at mange naturrelaterte kriser stammer fra de samme problemene rundt sosial ulikhet. Jeg konkluderer med at sosiologien kan spille en rolle i klimakrisen og eventuelt bidra til løsninger og nye forståelser. Om fagdisiplinen derimot er relevant nok kan diskuteres, og det ser ut til at det finnes et behov for en ny teoretisering på tvers av sosiologi som fagdisiplin. Til tross for dette er det ingen tvil om at et samarbeid mellom sosiale og naturlige aspekter må til for å løse en krise som dette.

This study examines how sociology as a discipline can contribute in today's transition phase. I have done a literature study where I have included relevant texts to first describe the society we are in today. Next, the focus is emphasized on recent reports and research to find out what causes and alternatives we have in today's climate crisis. I will use the discipline's established theories about the risk society, to see how they can be used in the present. Environmental sociology is still developing, and has long challenged the distinction between the natural and the social. It seems that many nature-related crises stem from the same problems around social inequality. I conclude that sociology can play a role in the climate crisis and possibly contribute to solutions and new understandings. On the other hand, whether the discipline is relevant enough can be discussed, and it seems that there is a need for a new theorizing across sociology as a discipline. Despite this, there is no doubt that a collaboration between social and natural aspects is needed to solve a crisis like this.
