Sammendrag
The purpose of this study is to present certain terminologies related to blood flow simulations and common heart diseases, while emphasizing the significance of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation in these applications. In particular, the evaluation of Hemolysis index is examined as a crucial factor in the circulation of blood within the human body, leading to potential damage to blood cells. This study introduces a novel OpenFoam solver that has been developed and validated using analytical results from Couette flow. The primary objective of this research is to assess the Hemolysis index (HI) in a Fontan connection when a Venous Ejector Pump (VEP) is incorporated. The results obtained from the simulation experimentsdemonstrate that the presence of the VEP leads to elevated HI values. This can be attributed to the increased velocity and shear stress observed at the entrance of the VEP.
