Background: With the increasing number of immigrants and refugees in Norway, there is a heavy burden on the healthcare system in the diverse environment. The role of the next-of-kin in cross-cultural families should be concerned as well. The aim of the research was to describe and discuss how the next-of-kin staff provides service for the next-of-kin with multi-cultural backgrounds, how they cooperate with different agencies, and the challenges and limitations they faced on the perspective of the next-of-kin staff in the next-of-kin center in Stavanger (pårørrendestenteret: in Norwegian). Methods: Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and observation. The participants were four next-of-kin staff in the next-of-kin center. Those interview data were organized and analyzed following the five steps of the framework analysis. After that, I discussed the findings and limitations of the research procedure. Results: The multicultural next-of kin service is at the beginning in the next-of-kin center. There are a lot of difficulties in the expending service process, including language barriers, cultural issues, funding, and trust. Conclusion: Through this research, I got a fundamental understanding of the framework of the next-of-kin center and the development of the net-of-kin service. After exploring and the multi-agency cooperation in Stavanger, the multicultural next-of-kin service could be a meaningful aspect with a better development in the future.
