dc.description.abstract
This bachelor's thesis examines the phenomenon of youth exclusion, focusing on how substance abuse and mental health issues affect young people's social integration. The thesis is a systematic literature review, where both academic articles and shared experiences from young people aged 12 to 29 have been analyzed to explore the psychosocial barriers contributing to social exclusion. The main objective of the study is to examine what previous research shows about young people's experiences of exclusion related to substance abuse and mental health challenges. The key findings from the literature indicate that stigma, lack of available support services, and insufficient social support are among the most significant barriers faced by the youth. These factors exacerbate the social isolation of young people and limit their access to educational and employment opportunities. The implications of the research point to a critical need for more comprehensive support programs and educational initiatives that can mitigate stigma and promote social inclusion. The thesis recommends that future studies focus on involving young people in developing and evaluating interventions that specifically address the identified barriers, and in the long term, contribute to a more inclusive and supportive societal structure for youth with substance abuse and mental health challenges.
