Will Carbon Capture and Storage give Norway a possibility to continue the petroleum exportation: the Case of Arctic Oil.

Abstract

Sammendrag Norge har gjennom årene etablert seg som en av lederene i internasjonal klimapolitikk. Med Parisavtalen ble det engang til stadfest at olje og gas må utfases. Men med dette har Norge mange utfordringer. Olje og gass aktiviteten har bidratt til høye levestandarder, og uten denne inntekten blir den vanskeligere å vedlikeholde. Paradoksen mellom internasjonalt klimalederskap og olje og gass utvinning er kortsiktig legitimert gjennom karbonfangst. Men spørsmålet er om Norge kan fortsette på samme måte og allikvel greie å bli et lavutslipps land i 2050

Abstract Norway has over the years established it self as a leader in international climate policy. With the Paris Agreement it was once again made clear that the fossil fuel extraction has to be faced out. But Norway faces many challenges in this regard. The oil and gas activities have historically contributed to the high standards of living and without this income it will get harder to uphold. The paradox between the international climate leadership and the fossil fuel exportation is in the short term legitimized through the prospects of Carbon Capture and Storage. But the question is if it possible to continue on the same path and to continue exploitation in the vulnerable and still become a low-carbon society in 2050.
