Denne artikkelen tar sikte på å utforske hvordan Gilmans litterære verk The Yellow Wallpaper, eller mer spesifikt hvordan Fortelleren i The Yellow Wallpaper videreformidler et budskap som overskrider Gilmans originale budskap om å advare publikum om restens kur, og også ser ut til å dykke ned i den ideologiske verdenen av å finne sin identitet ved å bryte gjennom de feminine og maskuline sfærene som er satt på plass av samfunnet for å oppnå en utviklet identitet. This paper will aim to explore how Gilman’s literary work The Yellow Wallpaper, or more specifically how the Narrator in The Yellow Wallpaper relays a message that transcends Gilman’s original message of warning the public of the rest cure, and also seems to delve into the ideological world of finding one’s identity by breaking through the feminine and masculine spheres put in place by society in order to achieve an evolved identity. This identity, which represents the new, modern woman is free of social restrictions in place and is able to create a life of fulfilment instead of obligation.
