dc.description.abstract | Historisk empati har tatt steget inn i den norske skolen igjennom historiefagets nye
kjerneelementer.
historisk empati. Undervisningsopplegget bruker spillet This War of Mine som en sentral del av
opplegget. Forskningsprosjektets problemstilling er følgende: Hvordan kommer historisk empati
til uttrykk hos elevene igjennom spillet This War of Mine?
grunnlaget i forskningsprosjektet.
Empatien består av to typer,
dc.description.abstract | Historical empathy has taken the step into the Norwegian school through the history subject's new
core elements. Renewal of the history and social studies subjects through the subject renewal aims
to improve the student's understanding of events and people in the past. This research project
implements a teaching program in social studies in a tenth grade with the aim of promoting
historical empathy. The teaching program uses the game This War of Mine as a central part of the
program. The research project's problem is the following: How is historical empathy expressed by
the students through the video game This War of Mine?
The problem is answered by using Barton and Levstik’s (2004) cognitive and affective
categories, Endacott & Brooks' (2013) model of historical empathy, and Ashby and Lee (1998)'s
levels of historical empathy. These theoretical approaches form the theoretical basis of the research
project. In addition, theory related to Gaming Literacy is used.
The research project is based on a qualitative research method. A teaching program was
carried out over three weeks, the students played, worked on assignments, and had group
discussions. This was to facilitate reflection and thought exchange among the students. Interviews
of eight of the students who participated in the project form the empirical basis of the project.
The result shows that 8 out of 8 students show empathy during the game. Empathy consists
of two types, cognitive and affective. It is also revealed that 0 out of 8 students show historical
empathy. This is due to lack of historical contextualization. The transition from empathy to
historical empathy will thus not be possible without contextualization.
The research project has shown that the game This War of Mine facilitates the cognitive
and affective values of historical empathy but falls through in the historical contextualization of
the videogame. | |
