Framgang i Lensherresystemet på 1200-tallet

Abstract

Bacheloroppgaven diskuterer begrepet "framgang" i det engelske lensherresystemet på 1200-tallet. Fire avhandlinger om landbruksforvaltning analyseres i lys av relevant historiografi, spesielt Jacques Le Goffs argumenter angående fremgang i middelalderen og periodisering. Oppgaven konkluderer med at det var liten til ingen idé om vitenskaplig, teknologisk eller økonomisk framgang i avhandlingene, noe som styrker Le Goffs argument. Det var klare idéer om forbedring og profitt, men ikke framgang i moderne forstand.

This thesis discusses the idea of "progress" in the 13th century English manorial system. Four treatises on manorial management from the period are analysed with respect to relevant historiography, particularly Jacques Le Goff's arguments regarding progress in the Middle Ages and periodisation. The thesis concludes that there was little to no idea of progress in a scientific, technological and economic sense in the treatises, which strenghtens Le Goff's argument. There was clear ideas of improvement and profit, but not progress in the modern sense.
