Petroleum Wives Club og dens rolle i integreringa av utanlandse oljefruer.

Abstract

Denne oppgåva tek for seg den lokale klubben Petroleum Wives Club (no People Who Connect). Gjennom bruk av originalmateriale frå Norsk olje- og gassarkiv, underlagt Statsarkivet i Stavanger, undersøkjar ho klubben og klubbens historie. Dette vert gjord ut frå problemstillinga:

I kva grad har Petroleum Wives Club i Stavanger bidrege til integrering av framande kvinner i ein ny og ukjend kultur?

Oppgåva undersøkjer og utforsker problemstillinga ved å sjå spesifikt på korleis møtet mellom kulturane var, frå sida til arbeidstakarane, arbeidsgjevarane, lokalmiljøet og offentlege verksemder. Vidare set ho klubben i perspektiv med samtida og notida og ser kva funksjon klubben har hatt i fortida og kva funksjon han har no. Det blir også kort undersøkt kva liknande klubbar (om nokre finst) har gjort annleis enn PWC og kva tyding det vil ha.

This paper aims to examine the local club "Petroleum Wives Club" (currently "People Who Connect"). Through the use of original archival materials from the Norwegian Oil- and Gas Archive, a division of the Norwegian State Archives, the paper aims to understand the club and its history, as well as its effect on the integration of a foreign populace in Norway.

The paper employs the following research question: To what degree has Petroleum Wives Club in Stavanger contributed to the integration of foreign women into a new and unfamiliar culture?

In an attempt to answer the research question, the paper looks at the meeting of the cultures, from the employees, employers, the locals, and the governmental entities. The club is also put into perspective with the past and the present, and examines the function that the club has served and is currently serving. Furthermore a short investigation is made into what (if any) similar clubs have done than PWC, and their effects.
