Sult etter likestilling: Mat til ettertanke i The Hunger Games

Abstract

Denne oppgaven er en studie av ulik maktfordeling i Panem i The Hunger Games. Den utforsker hvordan marxistisk teori belyser forholdet mellom The Districts og The Capitol, og forholdet hver klasse har til mat slik det fremstilles i boken. Oppgaven anvender marxistisk teori i en nærlesing av boken til å vurdere mat som et maktmiddel. Oppgaven kobler situasjonen i Panem til vår forståelse av klassekamp i dagens samfunn. Den konkluderer med at mat representerer det store maktgapet i Panem, og den kritiserer hvordan samfunnet vårt i dag velger å ikke ende sult i verden, når man har ressursene til å gjøre det.

This thesis is a study of the unequal distribution of power in Panem in The Hunger Games. It explores how Marxist theory illuminates the relationship between The Districts and The Capitol, and the relationships of each class to food as portrayed the book. It does so by applying Marxist theory in a close reading of the book while considering food as a means of power. The thesis also connects the revealed relationships to our understanding of class struggle in society today. It concludes that food does represent the wide gap of power in Panem, and it criticises how our society today chooses not to end world hunger while having the resources to do it.
