The text looks at the character of Loghain Mac Tir from the video game Dragon Age: Origins and whether it is possible to identify him as an anti-hero. This is done by doing a character analysis and looking at what heroic qualties he posesses, such as loyalty and courage, values chosen on the basis of the Heroic Ethos and the genres Epic and (Chivalric) Romances. However, by identifying the differences between a villain and an anti-hero it is also estblished what anti-heroic qualties Loghain posesses. Such as having inner conflict between right and worng and an "immoral means for moral ends" mentality, in addition to lacking the heroic value of honour. Furthermore, it also explores the effect that Point of View has on Loghain's portrayal as a character and it discusses the possiblillity that the narrator of Dragon Age: Origins is unreliable and biased. Lastly, the text argues that Loghain is suceptible to sympathy from the audience, and it puts his arguments for "the ends justify the means" into question if the audience is able to agree with that or not. This is done though reception theory.
