Og mennesker, vi udfører dine ønsker og forsvarer dig. En analyse av Odins funksjon i Malene Sølvstens fantasy-roman Ravnens Hvisken

Abstract

I denne oppgaven har vi sett på Odin som en hjelper i fantasy-romanen Ravnens Hvisken, skrevet av Malene Sølvsten. Hjelpekarakteren er beskrevet som en viktig karakter for heltens suksess og fortellingens fremgang innen forskning på eventyret og eventyrets struktur. Siden fantasy bygger på den samme struktur som eventyret, kan vi også finne hjelpekarakterer innen denne sjangeren. En narratologisk tilnærming til teksten viser hvordan Odin i denne fantasy-romanen er en viktig karakter som både hjelper helten og bidrar til at helten utvikler og modnes som karakter. Karakterene vi finner innen fantasy, er ikke statiske, men utvikler seg gjennom romanene. De er heller ikke nødvendigvis bare gode eller bare onde, og de gjenspeiler på den måten at det faktisk er lov å endre seg. For ungdom som leser fantasy er ett av de viktigste punktene for dem at karaktere ikke er statiske. For dem er det viktig å erfare at man som person har mulighet til å endre seg, både på godt og vondt. Ungdom identifiserer seg med karakterer de finner i fanatsy-romaner, ikke bare de menneskelige, men også de fantastiske karakterene. Og gjennom karakterenes prøvelser lære ungdommen å håndtere følelser de ikke selv har opplevd. Dette kan bety at det å lese fantasy gir ungdom muligheten til ikke bare å forstå seg selv bedre, men også å lære og håndtere vanskelige, større følelser på grunn av at mann har «opplevd» dem i fantasy-romanen.

In this assignment I have looked at Odin as a helper in the fantasy novel Raven's Whisper (2016), written by Malene Sølvsten. The supporting character is described as important for the hero's success and the narrative's progress within research done on the adventure and the structure of fairy tales. Fantasy is based on the same structure as fairy tales, and we also find the helper within this genre. Analysis done by narratological approach to the text, shows how Odin in this fantasy novel is an important character who both helps the hero and contributes to her maturing as a character. The characters we find in fantasy are not static, on the contrary they develop through the novels. Nor are the characters necessarily only good or only evil, and in that way, they reflect that it is the dichotomy of the concept is presented as a duality in humans, and that the state is malleable for change. Hence, for young people who read fantasy, one of the most important points is that characters are not static. For them, it is important to experience that you as a person can change, for better and for worse. Young people identify with characters they meet in fantasy novels, not only the humans but also the fantastic ones. Through the characters' trials and tribulations, the youth/adolescent learn to deal with emotions they are not experienced with themselves. This may indicate that reading fantasy gives young people the opportunity not only to understand themselves better, but also to learn and deal with difficult, larger emotions due to having "experienced" them in a fantasy novel.
