dc.description.abstract | This thesis is a study which seeks to find answers of how women, especially European middleclass women, are represented in Heart of Darkness (1899). To find out, the thesis` focus will be on Marlow because he is the narrator of the novella; in other words, all that is said and done is narrated through Marlow`s point of view. Therefore, the thesis will look at Marlow`s thoughts of women and why he tells the men on the Nellie these thoughts. To continue, it will investigate how Marlow treat women, particularly through tone and mode in syntax and diction in his dialogue with Kurtz` intended; as well, it will look at Marlow`s dialogues with men to see if it differs or not. | |
