"Å spille historisk empati" - En undersøkelse av "Through the Darkest of Times" og spillets potensiale for historisk empati.

Abstract

Den siste læreplanen har for alvor satt historisk empati på dagsorden ved å innføre det som kjerneelement, men det er fortsatt uenighet om hva historisk empati er og hvordan man best kan jobbe med det i skolen. Gaming blir mer og mer utbredt blandt både gutter og jenter, og oppgaven ønsker å se på hvordan et dataspill potensielt sett kan fremme historisk empati i spilleren. Oppgaven diskuterer og definerer en måte å forstå begrepet historisk empati på, og analysen viser at spillet leverer de forskjellige bestanddelene av begrepet i stor grad. Analysen når ikke helt opp til å vise hvordan spillet fremmer historisk empati, men viser at spillet inneholder mye potensiell historisk empati.

The latest (Norwegian) curriculum has truly put historical empathy on the agenda by implementing it as a core element, but there still exists disagreement about what historical empathy is and what the best way to engage with it in schools. Gaming is becoming more and more prevalent among both boys and girls, and this thesis attempts to look at how a videogame potentially can promote historical empathy in the player. This thesis discusses the concept and lands on a definition of historical empathy, and the analysis shows that the game delivers the different components of historical empathy to a large degree. The analysis is not able to show precisely how the game can promote historical empathy, only that the game contains a lot of potential historical empathy.
