dc.description.abstract | This thesis conducts a comparative analysis of proper noun localization in the Norwegian translation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by Joanne K. Rowling (1997, translated 2001), focusing on the decisions made by translator Torstein Bugge Høverstad. It explores how English proper nouns are adapted for the Norwegian target audience, considering age group and nationality. While Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is one of the most translated works worldwide, the thesis specifically investigates the Norwegian translation's approach to proper nouns, including anthroponyms and toponyms. It examines translation strategies, notable patterns, and potential changes based on perceived importance. | |
