Vidkun Quisling: Nødhjelpsarbeideren, politikeren og landssvikeren

Abstract

Vidkun Quisling er for de fleste nordmenn mest kjent som den største norske nazisten under andre verdenskrig. Etternavnet hans er i dag et internasjonalt skjellsord på en person som velger å samarbeide med en fremmed makt som okkuperer sitt eget hjemland. Etter krigen la de fleste nordmenn Quisling for hat, mens han selv hevdet at han hadde gjort sin plikt og forsvart Norge. I denne bacheloroppgaven skal jeg svare på følgende problemstilling: Hvordan har de ulike rollene Quisling hadde gjennom livet preget vårt syn på han? Ved å skrive denne bacheloroppgaven har jeg lyst til å vise at det ikke bare var valgene Quisling tok under krigen som fikk betydning for hans skjebne og vårt syn på han. Valgene han tok som ung nødhjelpsarbeider og senere forsvarsminister, og partileder fikk også følger for hvordan han endte opp som landssviker. I starten av oppgaven vil jeg introdusere temaet jeg har valgt, presentere problemstillingen og historiografien til oppgaven. Den første delen av oppgaven handler om da Quisling ble nødhjelpsarbeider i Ukraina sammen med Fridtjof Nansen. Den andre delen handler om da Quisling ble forsvarsminister og grunnla av sitt eget parti, Nasjonal Samling. Den tredje delen kommer til å ta for seg den perioden som Quisling er mest kjent for, hans rolle under andre verdenskrig. Til slutt skal jeg oppsummere oppgaven i konklusjonen.

Vidkun Quisling is to most Norwegians most known as the biggest Norwegian Nazi during the Second World War. Today his last name is an international insult for a person who chooses to cooperate with a foreign power who is occupying one’s own home country. After the war most Norwegians deemed Quisling as hateful, but he himself claimed to have followed his duty and defended Norway. In this bachelor’s thesis I will answer the following research question: How has the different roles Quisling had throughout his life affected our view of him? By writing this bachelor’s thesis I want to show that it was not only the choices Quisling made during the war that affected his fate and our view of him. His choices as a young emergency aid worker and later minister of defense, and party leader also had consequences for how he ended up as a traitor to his own country. In the start of the thesis, I will introduce the theme I have chosen, present my research question and the historiography of the thesis. The first part of the thesis is about when Quisling became an emergency aid worker in Ukraine with Fridtjof Nansen. The second part is about when Quisling became the minister of defense and founded his own political party, Nasjonal Samling (National Gathering). The third part will look at the period that Quisling is most known for, his role during the Second World War. Finally, I will summarize the thesis in the conclusion.
