Konstruksjonen av en trussel: En historiebruksanalyse av Stopp islamiseringen av Norge

Abstract

Denne masteroppgaven undersøker hvordan SIAN (Stopp islamiseringen av Norge) bruker historie for å fremme sitt anti-islamske innhold på deres egen nettside. Dette blir gjort gjennom å bruke en historiebruksanalyse for å analysere artikler publiser av SIAN mellom 1. januar 2021 og 31. desember 2021. Oppgaven benytter seg av Klas-Göran Karlsson historiebruks typologi som et teoretisk utgangspunkt for å identifisere og kategorisere bruken av historie. Spesielt hans verktøy knyttet til ideologisk og politisk historiebruk har blitt viktig for oppgaven. Oppgavens problemstilling er: Hvordan bruker SIAN (Stopp islamiseringen av Norge) historie for å fremme sitt anti-islamske innhold på deres egen nettside?

For å svare på denne problemstillingen har oppgaven analysert empirien gjennom å bruke en innholdsanalyse med utgangspunkt i Klaus Krippendorff sin teori. I tillegg gis oppgaven et multimodalt perspektiv gjennom å kombinere innholdsanalysen med en multimodal analyse. Ved bruk av denne metoden konstrueres fire analytiske kategorier som ble brukt for å kode empirien.

Gjennom innholdsanalysen kommer det frem at SIAN bruker historien på en politisk og ideologisk måte. Det sentrale i funnene handler om hvordan SIAN bruker profeten Muhammad både som ett historisk holdepunkt og mal for hvordan muslimer skal oppføre seg i samfunnet. Hvordan svart/hvit syn på historien kommer til utrykk gjennom etableringen av en kontinuerlig islamsk trussel opp gjennom historien, både ved bruken av profeten, selektive historiske tidslinjer og historiske analogier. Oppgaven prøver også å plassere SIAN inn i det norske politiske landskapet gjennom analysen av deres bruk av historie, spesielt sett i forhold til begreper som høyreradikalitet, høyreekstremisme, populisme og islamofobi.

This master thesis examines how SIAN (Stop Islamisation of Norway) uses history to enhance their anti-Islamic content on their own webpage. This was done by analysing web articles published by SIAN between the dates of 1st of January 2021 an 31st of December. The master thesis uses Klas-Göran Karlsson theory and subsequent typology on the different uses of history as a theoretical perspective for identifying and categorise their use of history. Especially his tools attached to ideological and political use of history became important for the master thesis.

The thesis question for this master thesis is: How uses SIAN (Stop Islamisation of Norway) history to enhance their anti-Islamic content on their own webpage.

To answer this question, the master thesis has analysed the research data by using Klaus Krippendorff’s method of content analysis. The thesis is also given a multimodal perspective by combining the content analysis with a multimodal analysis. Four different analytical categories were constructed using this method. They were used to code the research data.

Through the use of this method, it was revealed that SIAN uses history in a political and ideological way. The findings show how SIAN uses the prophet Muhammad both as a significant historical argument for how Muslims today should behave and be judged by the past. Their use of a black/white view on history is shown trough their construction of a continuous Islamic threat throughout history. This is also shown to be done using selective historical timelines, the prophet, and analogies. The master thesis also tries to place SIAN into the Norwegian political scene through the analysis of their use of history, especially in the context of terms as right-wing radicalism, extremism, populism, and islamophobia.
